The fishing ports of Paros

Paros is one of the nuggets of Greece‘s Cyclades. The island’s picturesque villages are all dressed in white. Typical Cycladic houses, monasteries and colorful flower gardens lend the island a certain charm. In these villages, time passes slowly, as locals and visitors mingle on the terraces, squares, beaches and cobbled lanes, simply enjoying the gentle pace of life. Some Paros villages are famous for their fishing ports. One of the best ways to discover these villages is to take a tour of the fishing ports.

Naoussa and its famous typical fishing port

Naoussa, a typical Cycladic village, is Paros’ most popular tourist destination. It lies in the north of the island, about 10 km from Parikia. In addition to its small white Venetian-style multi-storey houses and cobbled lanes, it’s also known for its picturesque fishing port. The island’s largest fishing fleet is based here. One part is dedicated to pleasure boats, the other to fishing boats. The latter is the most interesting, facing the remains of an ancient Venetian castle. The fishing port of Naoussa offers a picture-postcard landscape, with the fishermen’s caiques moored on the quayside, the tables of the waterside restaurants and the white alleyways that surround it. It’s a pleasant place to stroll around. Chic boutiques, taverns, lounges and famous restaurants welcome visitors. This enchanting promenade is not to be missed, and it’s even possible to reach the beaches by caïque. This remarkably restored character house in the historic center of Naoussa village is ideal for discovering all the village has to offer.

Piso Livadi and its authentic little fishing port

On the east coast of Paros lies the traditional fishing village of Piso Livadi, an extension of the resort of Logaras. The village seems to be encircled by trees and boasts a delightful fishing port. Naturally protected from the northerly winds, large fishing caiques moor here, and the beach is popular with families. The harbor is also home to taverns and bars where traditional dishes and ouzo are served in a relaxed atmosphere. The port of Piso Livadi is also the departure point for many excursion boats, which leave for Naxos, Amorgos, Santorini and other Cycladic islands in summer.

The great port of Parikia

On the other side of Paros, on the west coast, you’ll find Parikia, a medieval town and the island’s capital. It is home to the island’s main port. It’s more a port dedicated to commercial and tourist activities than to fishing. Nevertheless, it’s a pleasant place to stroll around, admiring the whitewashed houses and windmills that are emblematic of Parikia. This luxurious seaside villa with panoramic views, close to Ambelas beach, 11 km from Parikia, will provide you with a peaceful and comfortable stay.

The fishing port of Aliki

This picturesque fishing village on the south coast of Paros is also a must-see on the island. Although not as large as Naoussa, its authentic fishing port is well worth a visit. On the jetty, fishermen’s caiques and a few pleasure boats drop anchor. Visit the nearby tavernas to sample freshly caught seafood. The village is also well sheltered from the wind and boasts a beautiful beach, Piso Aliki, which is all the more reason to stop off. Made of small white pebbles and lined with tamarisk trees, it’s very popular with families. Caique cruises are also a must at this port. This top-of-the-range villa in the south of the island is a haven of peace and an excellent starting point for visiting this port.
