Tuscany’s most beautiful roads

Tuscany is indisputably one of Italy’s most beautiful regions. With its endless vineyards, breathtaking hilly landscapes and mountain villages steeped in history, it never ceases to amaze visitors. The best way to discover the region is to follow its most beautiful roads, an opportunity to marvel at its superb panoramas, taste the region’s great vintages and discover la dolce vita. If the famous Chianti wine route needs no introduction, here’s a selection of equally impressive routes to take.

TOWNS TO DISCOVER ON THE TUSCAN ROADS

Florence, Lucca, Pisa and Siena are the region’s must-sees. Our villas in Tuscany are ideally situated in strategic locations, so you can hop in your car, hit the road and stop to discover the region’s most beautiful sites. As part of your discovery of the region, visit Florence, the superb Tuscan capital. There are so many monuments and gardens to discover here, that visitors flock to the city in droves. Then head for Lucca, the famous medieval city 90 minutes away. The cobbled streets, ramparts, picturesque houses and monuments are perfect for exploring by bike. It’s a city full of surprises. Then on to Pisa, where you can admire the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, as well as listed monuments and museums. Finish your tour in Siena, following the narrow roads through the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Once again, superb monuments and a special atmosphere await you. Along the way, in the heart of the Tuscan valleys, you’ll find surprisingly small towns such as Volterra, also known as the “City of the Wind”, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and many others. We recommend that you take a moment to discover them, as they are so rich in history and heritage.

ROUTE SR 222 OR CHIANTIGIANA

If you are looking for eye-popping panoramic views, this road should be among your must-sees. It’s one of the most popular in Italy. Starting south of Florence, you’ll wind your way through the Chianti Classico region, famous for its vineyards stretching over thousands of hectares. Just let yourself be charmed by the scenery as you climb, descend and twist and turn here and there. You will discover famous towns like Greve in Chianti and the medieval village of Radda in Chianti, enclosed by its great walls. You will be able to make many stops along the way, given the number of renowned vineyards in this part of Tuscany and the many charming villages that dot the hills.

THE ETRUSCAN COAST WINE ROUTE

This wine route takes you along the Mediterranean coast, opposite the island of Elba. This is the birthplace of the “supertuscan” wines of excellence. The program includes cellar visits and tastings of great Italian vintages. Take the time to discover the vineyards that produce Sassicaia, the home of Bolgheri DOC. In this corner of southern Tuscany, you’ll also find the Petra estate designed by architect Mario Botta, and the vineyards of Castello del Terriccio. If you’re a wine enthusiast, this tour is sure to satisfy. An experience to be enjoyed under the cypress trees, lulled by the sound of cicadas.

BEAUTIFUL TUSCAN VILLAS FOR RENT

On the famous Chianti road lies a beautiful villa for rent built in the second half of the 19th century. Situated between Florence and Siena, this house is ideally positioned for exploring the region. And if you want to be able to continue admiring the same views as on the road, then this is even more the perfect house, as it boasts a magnificent view over hills covered with vineyards and olive groves. You can also rent a villa just 7 km from a main road exit that takes you directly to the most important sites in Tuscany. You can also rent a property in the fortified medieval hamlet of Volpaia, where you’ll find a pretty garden with trees and vines. The outdoor pergola lets you relax in the shade and admire the magnificent view of the surrounding countryside.
