Grape harvest in the Chianti

Why not take advantage of your next vacation in Italy to learn a little more about the wine culture of one of the world’s most famous wine regions, Chianti? Leave during the grape harvest season and don’t hesitate to rent a luxury villa in Tuscany.

THE CHIANTI WINE ROUTE

The Chiantigiana (SR 222) is one of Italy’s most scenic roads. Starting just south of Florence and ending in Siena, it crosses the entire length of the Chianti Classico wine region. It winds its way through the rolling hills of Tuscany, crossing endless hectares of vineyards that produce the unique Chianti Classico DOGG. Indeed, Chianti has been recognized as one of Italy’s most outstanding wine-growing regions for at least two centuries. To discover the true beauty of Chianti, take the time to explore its ancient villages and surrounding vineyards, which are open to the public. You can take a trip to wine country along the Route Chiantigiana all year round, but it’s highly recommended to come in September if you want to enjoy the various events, not least the grape harvest.

ACTIVITIES ON THE PROGRAM

Harvest time is a great time to visit Tuscany. Some people even visit just beforehand to enjoy the beautiful visual spectacle of vines full of ripe bunches of Sangiovese, the famous grape variety of Chianti Classico. From late August to mid-October, events such as Vino al Vino are organized to celebrate the Sangiovese harvest. This festival takes place during the third week of September in the charming town of Panzano, where you can enjoy tastings of local wines. Live concerts, winery tours and various other events are also organized during this festive period to offer plenty of activities for visitors of all ages.

VILLAS FOR RENT IN CHIANTI

Why not stay in a beautiful old farmhouse right in the heart of Chianti, in Greve in Chianti for easy access to the region’s vineyards? In this magnificent villa, you’ll find yourself just 2 km from the shops, 30 km from Florence and 120 km from Pisa. Its terrace with swimming pool and furnished pergola offers a breathtaking view over the town of Greve, an ideal place to admire the farmers at harvest time. You can also rent a former agricultural estate that produces Chianti Classico wine around its castle. This pretty stone property dates back to the 16th century and was completely restored in 2002 to offer visitors optimal modern comfort and airy, spacious interiors. You can also choose a carefully renovated farmhouse, also in the heart of Chianti Classico. Each window of this beautiful residence offers a breathtaking view of the charming Tuscan countryside.
