Best ice-cream makers in Florence area

Have you often heard that gelato is one of the essential dishes of Italian gastronomy? Are you passing through Florence on your trip to Tuscany, and want to try some good gelato without going to the wrong place? With temperatures in excess of 30°C, it’s time to make a stop at an ice cream parlour to cool off and enjoy some of the best gelato around.

FLORENCE’S MOST RENOWNED GLACIERS

As you stroll through the streets of the city, you’ll find many ice cream parlors, or “gelaterias”, along the way. Here are three that we highly recommend – you won’t be disappointed. The first is Gelateria la Carraia, in the Oltrarno district. It’s one of the most famous ice-cream parlors when you cross the banks of the Arno. The reasons why it’s one of the city’s best ice-cream parlors lie in the fact that their ice creams have a very distinctive and delicious taste, with a wide choice of flavors (chocolate, yogurt, ricotta or candied pears), and generous portions. Another important detail is that the ice creams are made by hand. And the prices are very low: you can buy an ice cream for as little as €1! Just a few metres from Gelateria la Carraia, you can also enjoy another delicious ice cream. At Gelateria Santa Trinità. Here you can sample an Italian gelato with a very creamy texture. You’ll have a wide choice of flavors, from the most authentic to the most original, such as black sesame, mascarpone or pink pomelo. Prices, always very affordable, start from €1.90 for a small jar, and go up to €3.70 for a cone with the three flavors of your choice. Finally, if you’re in the Santa Croce district, you will find Florence‘s oldest ice cream parlour. It’s called Gelateria Vivoli. It’s been around since 1930! In those days, there were no refrigerators to store ice cream, so they sourced their production directly from the Alpine mountains. You’ll find fresh, top-quality products here. This is an authentic ice cream parlour, where you’ll find delicious new flavours. If you like chocolate ice cream, don’t hesitate. The house has made it one of its specialties, with no less than ten different recipes. The price per tub is €2.50.
