Welcome to Umbry...
A land of sweet hills covered with vineyards and olive trees, green Umbria and its temperate and healthy climate stands in the center of Italy. The tradition, the history, Italian art are part of everyday life here. The cities are ancient medieval small market-towns, very well conserved : Gubbio, Spoleto, Todi are full of squares, fountains and palaces surrounding Roman basilicas and Gothic churches with its great use of marble ; Perouse, Assise, Orvieto. When walking in the forests, you will discover castles and fortresses of the XII and XIVth centuries where time has stopped. In the shade of churches shine the frescos and paintings of great masters : Giotto, Cimabue, Signorelli, Benozzo, Gozzoli, il Perugino. In the countryside, you will discover spectacular Roman bridges, graves and Etruscan ramparts. The landscape can be sweet and calm or primitive and striking : cultivated fields cut by Roman roads, the impressive waterfall of « Marmore », the great lake Trasimene and the rocks of Orvieto. Local food is natural and the tastes of the past remain : olive oil, roasted « porchetta », norcino salami, the minestra al farro, and famous wines. The entertainments are numerous and diverse : the folklore keeps antique traditions alive with love. The shopping is attractive and diverse : ceramics, maioliques, coppers, metals, graven images, fabrics : what a pleasure to do your shopping in small art craft shops and local markets. Walking, living in Umbria means to trip to the past. You will rediscover forgotten pleasures.
